Karlukwees is one of the few sites that can be dated.  The square rigged ship and the horse drawn wagon were painted in 1912.  The Duke of Connaught as the Governor General of Canada visited Victoria BC in that year and was given a tour of the city in a carriage drawn by four horses.  Later he toured several coastal communities by ship.  These paintings were done to commemorate those events.
